aLIVE

aLIVE is a shared context for people who play electronic music live.

IRL events in Berlin, Kiev. For events in Miami follow: https://www.instagram.com/grampswynwood/

Online events on Zoom.

A signup list for an event is posted on https://instagram.com/a.live.sound as a story. To sign up for a short or a long slot, send a DM on IG. An updated list will be posted periodically leading up to the start of the event.

Once the session starts each person gets 5-10 minutes to set up (depending on needs) and the slot they signed up for to perform. Discussions about the setup and process of the performer take place individually after a person performs.

Once the session starts each person gets 5-10 minutes to set up (depending on needs) immediately before the slot they signed up.

The session runs as long as there are participants performing, but always feel free to stay longer & chat with the people who performed/attended.

Each performer gets a few mins to setup/soundcheck immediately before their short/long slot and discussions of the setup/process take place immediately after the person performs. There will be a short open discussion for each performer.

The sessions will be hosted on Zoom.

Yes, however, since we are hosting the sessions on Zoom the easiest tech setup is to use a DAW and set the output to Zoom (and make sure you are sharing audio in stereo). If you are playing live with hardware you can take the master out from your hardware setup into the input of your audio interface and just use the DAW as a pass through (so you can share the sound to Zoom). If that’s the case you can connect with your smartphone separately to Zoom so we can see what you are doing in video.

  1. To have the opportunity to perform on a stage.
  2. To get feedback on your work.
  3. To connect with others who perform live in the area where the session is.

That will be dependent on the amount of artists signing up to perform on any given particular day. Audience members who attend that are not performing are more than welcome to attend as well.

  1. To have the opportunity to perform virtually.
  2. To get feedback on your work.
  3. To connect with others who perform live anywhere in the world.

No. Neither IRL events nor online sessions cost anything to perform at or attend.

There might be special sessions in the future where a known performer comes to perform & have a discussion about how they play. These sessions may or may not have a cover and will likely have limited availability to attend. But for now assume everything is free. If there is a cost to these special sessions it will be made clear upfront.

Hell yeah… There will most certainly be events which are planned for an audience. In this case soundcheck will be done ahead of time & there won’t be significant breaks between each performance.

No. There is no planned schedule aside from when the sessions take place. You are most certainly free to attend according to your availability. The idea is to learn from others & by performing/attending, but not in the way that a class/school/program is scheduled.

Anything between a guitar with a looper pedal to DAW project. It really depends on how you identify with your creative process and whether you consider it electronic music. And yes you can play a single note on the guitar for the entire duration of your performance, that’s fine, too...

There is some implication that you will be doing more than just pressing play on something that’s completely preprogrammed or prerecorded. Technically you could press play & do nothing, but the aim of aLIVE is do something live. If you are interested in getting feedback on your productions (not performing them live), check out the Producers' Social! Their whole concept is getting feedback on productions in progress.

Not really. If your instrument is just a laptop, that’s cool. If your setup is all hardware, that’s cool, too. If your setup is a DJ setup + a drum machine that works, too. We are not discriminating based on gear (woot?!), however is it somewhat useful if it doesn’t take super long to setup, since we are not doing sound checks ahead of time.

We do not provide a mixer and or turntables/CDJs. However you are welcome to do a hybrid setup if you have your own instruments linked to your DJ equipment.

An RCA or TRS output. Ideally stereo.

For now you will most likely need a laptop with a virtual sound card and or a USB interface.
